ABOUT WASHINGTON SQUARE MUSIC FESTIVAL

Celebrating Music and Community
The Washington Square Music Festival is a celebration of music and community. It's an annual event that brings together classical, jazz, Latin, and diverse performers to Washington Square Park in NYC. The festival aims to provide free public concerts for the NYC community, creating an inclusive and vibrant musical experience for all. Through our website, we welcome donations to support and sustain this cultural celebration.

Champion of Representation
A defining aspect of the Washington Square Music Festival is its deep sense of community—both within the festival and among the audiences who gather in the park each summer. Since its founding in 1953, the festival has remained a beacon of artistic excellence, offering free, high-quality performances that enrich New York’s cultural landscape. This tradition is invaluable, ensuring that music remains accessible to all. Beyond preserving musical heritage, the festival has also been a champion of new voices, innovative programming, and representation in the arts.
As Music Director, I have had the privilege of working alongside a dedicated and talented team, committed to fostering these musical experiences. The festival orchestra, a close-knit ensemble, is one of the best I have worked with, and my role is to build upon this foundation while making meaningful contributions to its evolving artistic identity.
